Troian Bellisario Talks to the New Potato

Excerpts from the article:
Troian Bellisario, New Potato
New Potato: From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

Troian Bellisario: An ideal food day would be a day in which I listened to my body: when I didn’t go too long without eating, overstuffed myself, freaked-out on a friend as a result of low blood sugar, and everything I ate left me feeling energized and clean. Doesn’t that sounds amazing? But it’s tough, making sure you eat well, regularly and consciously in today’s crazy world. I know I’m not the only one with a crazy schedule!

So, I guess to achieve this, I try to eat simple healthy whole foods; they don’t take a lot of prep and can be taken on the go. I love a thick greek yogurt in the morning with fruit and a nut butter. Sometimes on a Sunday, I will make a big batch of steel cut oats and then put it in the refrigerator. Then, each morning, you take a little bit with some almond milk and raisins or dates and heat it back up; it’s so easy to take it in a jar to work (with any toppings you like) and it’s warm and gives you energy for a long time. I’ll do the same thing on a Sunday with a big salad of kale with my favorites – avocado and sweet potato. I’ll make it on a Sunday with some lemon juice and leave it in the fridge and then make a dressing that I can add later. Usually for protein I’ll add boiled eggs or nuts and seeds. For dinner, I love sushi or a perfect piece of fish.

I know for some people this might sound like a boring day, or a day they have read about in some magazine in the nail salon like eight times, but when my life gets hectic usually food is the first thing I like to organize so that it doesn’t stress me out. If I have an audition and three meetings – and I have to make a flight after working all night – I can’t waste any mental energy by allowing myself to get to the point of hunger and then asking myself what I want to eat. Sometimes it is nice to just have all of that food prepared. I know it will sustain me and leave me feeling full and I can focus on other things.

But that is ideally, as in the perfection of health. I would also ideally love to have french toast and eggs every morning and then ice cream later.
Troian Bellisario, New Potato
New Potato: How do you practice beauty from the inside out?

Troian Bellisario: Listen to your body. I am horrible at this, but I’m trying to get better. I need to learn that when I have not gotten enough sleep, maybe I should not wake up and go on a run. Maybe it would be better for my body to get that extra hour of sleep. Maybe I don’t need that third cup of coffee, because I will not feel any more awake, I’ll just get shaky and hyper. Again, I am horrible at this, but I feel like the key to beauty and health is listening to your body and giving it what it needs, not always what you think it wants.

Shay Mitchell Talks to Michigan Avenue

The complete article:
Shay Mitchell
Shay Mitchell reveals her favorite spots she’s visited across the country (and around the world!), what’s still on her travel bucket list, and how Pretty Little Liars continues to surprise her.

As any one of her 14 million Instagram followers can attest, Shay Mitchell finds a lot of joy in being a jetsetter. The Shaycation star often posts shots of her envy-inducing travels to exotic locales — she’s visited a monkey forest in Bali, gone river rafting in Fiji, and soaked up the scenery from a hot air balloon in Morocco, for starters. And while summer vacations may be taking a backseat to filming smash TV series Pretty Little Liars, this globetrotter’s wanderlust is a constant, making Mitchell a natural fit to partner with San Pellegrino for the recent launch of its interactive app, Delightways.

Now available in Chicago, New York City, LA, San Francisco, Miami, Austin, Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, and Seattle, Delightways encourages users to explore cities through wandering paths as opposed to traditional linear routes — a novel approach to navigation that Mitchell wholeheartedly embraces. We dialed up the on-the-go dynamo to talk discovery through adventures, and acting.

Michigan Avenue: Delightways is such a unique app. What drew you to this concept?
SHAY MITCHELL: My whole brand is all about exploring, wandering, discovering, sort of getting off the beaten path — I do that with my travel, and in everything that’s basically how I live my life. So, when [San Pellegrino] came to me with this really amazing interactive app, I was like, That’s great! It takes people off their regular routes, and they get to stop along the way to different locations that they may not have found without the app. I thought that was really cool. I have a bunch of different favorite places in each of these cities, and it’s neat that you can find some new spots that you may not have found before.

MA: We’d love to go city by city to learn more about some of these spots.
SM: Sure!

MA: In Chicago, what are some of your favorite spots that you’ve explored?
SM: Oh my gosh, Lou Malnati’s? I. Can’t. [Laughs] I love Chicago; I was there in February, and it’s such a beautiful city. My restaurant over there is definitely Lou Malnati’s, and I actually ship that straight to my house here in LA. [Laughs]

MA: Nice!
SM: Yeah, I have about 10 frozen pizzas in my fridge.

MA: What is your favorite pizza from Lou Malnati’s?
SM: I custom [order] them, but I get a selection of everything: I have Hawaiian, I have pepperoni, I have vegetarian, so anybody that comes over, depending on what they like, I pretty much have that in my freezer.

MA: That’s great. Any other spots in Chicago that you’ve been able to explore?
SM: I’m a fan of the Chicago Bulls, so I go to games when I’m there. The architecture’s amazing, [and] I took a boat tour that was incredible.

MA: How about in LA?
SM: In LA, there’s really awesome food trucks on the app that I love because I’m a big foodie. It’s interesting because even though I live in LA, there are certain different places that I might not have been aware of, so for me I’d say different food trucks, [and] different museums [like] the LACMA.

MA: And in New York?
SM: There’s a restaurant called Miss Lily’s, which I love. And if these [spots] aren’t on [Delightways], then these should be my own little additions.

MA: What is it about Miss Lily’s that you love?
SM: I love the food — it’s West Indian and Jamaican, and it’s unlike anything else. The experience is just cool. Between the music and the food, it’s a perfect combination.

MA: And how about in Miami?
SM: I was there again not too long ago. Joe’s [Stone Crab] is one of the best restaurants there, and also Little Havana. You feel like you’re in Cuba.

MA: And what about in Austin?
SM: I actually haven’t been to Austin, and I haven’t been to Boston in a long time, or Washington, DC.

MA: You’ve traveled the world and gone to such amazing places. Is there a destination that you haven’t been to yet that’s on your bucket list?
SM: I haven’t been to Greece, and I really want to go, and also Croatia and Turkey.

MA: And I guess you can add Austin!
SM: And Austin! For real — Austin is a place I really want to go to. [I’ve heard] the music scene there is incredible.

MA: The Delightways app is all about surprising and delighting. Thinking about your Pretty Little Liars character Emily, who you’ve played for seven seasons and counting, how does she continue to surprise you?
SM: It’s funny because with the different experiences, she continues to kind of surprise herself with how she handles them. I think there’s a complete 180 from when I first started the show to how she is now; there’s a lot more confidence in there, which obviously comes from time and the experiences that she and the girls have had, and just the amazing bond that I think each of them has with each other. It’s a relationship like no other.

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Costume Designer Talks to Teen Vogue

The complete article:
Pretty Little Liars, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Shay Mitchell, Emily Fields, Hanna Marin, Spencer Hastings, Aria Montgomery
We’re still reeling from the Pretty Little Liars summer finale. And as much as we love the drama of the hit TV show, we also adore the fashion. When you have Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario, and Ashley Benson in the cast, you can pretty much count on statement-making style.

Dressing the show’s myriad of characters is no easy task, but Cameron Dale handles the workload with ease. She actually got the call for the coveted role while she was traveling in Spain. “I was interviewing on Skype for the job. It was crazy. I would interview at 10 p.m. in San Sebastian with the producers in Los Angeles and then head out for dinner. And by the time I reached my next destination in Ireland, I had booked the job. The day after I returned to Los Angeles and began shopping for the cast.”

Here, Cameron dishes on the show’s fashion, working with our favorite PLL actors, how you can shop the looks from the show, and so much more.

Teen Vogue: Let’s take it back to the season premiere episode. Which brands did you use?

Cameron Dale: I love the French brands Sandro and Maje for Lucy Hale. Lucy wears a Sandro top with a cute cropped All Saints jacket in the premiere episode. Emily wears a Zara denim coat and a jumper by Velvet Heart. Poor Hanna is in undies and a Gap tank top being tortured all episode. These girls have really been through the ringer. Spencer starts out in an amazing Roland Mouret dress since it’s a direct cut from our finale episode from last season where she’s fancy for her Mom’s party. She quickly changes into Frame jeans and Adidas so she can help find Hanna. Continue reading

Lucy Hale Covers V Magazine

Lucy Hale, V MagazineLucy Hale covers V Magazine.

On doing a sexier photo shoot: “I was really excited to do something a lot more grown up and show a different side of me. The photographer is actually my trainer’s husband. We came up with this idea to do something really raw and a lot more grown up and edgier than I was used to doing. It was something for fun, and something just to experiment a little bit. When we saw the photos we were like, ‘Well, s–t,’ we need to do something with these! I look at these photos more as art than a photo shoot, because I’ve always felt really uncomfortable doing photo shoots. I’ve never felt like a model or anything. James just let me do my thing and caught me at the right moments. I wanted it to have a shock factor.”
Lucy Hale, V Magazine
On the different sides of her personality: “I’m a Gemini so I gotta do things a little differently. What a lot of people don’t know about me is that I do have two sides. I’m very professional and I’m very Type A when it comes to work, but I also have this pretty dark, almost provocative side to me as well. I’m just a petite girl with big eyes that looks really innocent, so they’d definitely be a little shocked to know certain things about me.” Continue reading

Shay Mitchell Featured In Galore

Shay Mitchell, GaloreShay Mitchell was featured in Galore where she was promoting her new book, Bliss: A Novel.

Here is the complete interview:

Pretty Little Liars is a phenomenon. Did you think it would attract such a stir when you first went in to read?
I’m not one to count my chickens before they hatch, but the books already had a huge fan base. Playing the character Emily Fields, who happens to be a lesbian, was both exciting and something that I feel is important. There seems to be a conversation around her character, a positive one, and I am happy to be that voice.

What’s the weirdest fan encounter you’ve had?
I was walking into a grocery store and someone jumped on my back – and I knew the second she yelled ‘it’s Emily Fields’, it was a fan. I guess being in someone’s living room once a week on the TV makes them feel a little TOO comfortable. Shay Mitchell, Galore Continue reading

Ashley Benson Covers Fashion (Summer 2015)

Ashley BensonAshley Benson covers the Summer edition of Fashion, where she is promoting the upcoming season of her ABC Family television show, Pretty Little Liars.

On famous people dating each other: “I don’t think I would be able to date a high-profile actor the way Angelina Jolie has. Her and Brad [Pitt] have done a good job at keeping private, but I’m sure that takes work.”

On the red carpet: “I hate the red carpet. It’s nerve-racking. People are yelling at you and pictures are being taken at all angles. It is not a comfortable thing for a human to experience!”

On the film Spring Breakers: “My family hated the movie, but I told them, ‘There are going to be films that you are not going to want to support, but you don’t have to see those films.’ I wanted that challenge.”

On Jennifer Lawrence: “I think she’s the coolest person in the business. She’s breaking the mould of what Hollywood stars are supposed to act like. I look up to her so much. Actors should stop acting when the cameras are off.”
