Notable Plot Moments:
Jared Padalecki, Sam Winchester, SupernaturalJared Padalecki, Sam Winchester, Supernatural, gif
The episode opens with Sam at a bar acting strange, which we later learn is because he is really Gary. As he leaves with a woman, we see that it’s an illusion and Sam is really a teenage boy.

Thirty-six hours earlier, Sam and Dean are visiting their old baby-sitter in Massachusetts. The woman and her family have a ghost and they have called the Winchesters for help.

Sam gets shot in the neck with a dart by the high school kid who works at the burger place, Gary, and wakes up in the woods wearing his clothes. As he’s walking along the street, a policeman thinks he is Gary and takes Sam home, but home is Gary’s house. Sam tries to tell the cop that he doesn’t live there, but Gary’s parents recognize him as Gary.

Meanwhile, Gary has gone back to the motel where Dean sees him as Sam.

Sam is having an interesting time as Gary, who apparently has asthma and a gluten allergy. However, Sam gets Gary’s sister to help him find Gary’s spell book. Sam finds it in Gary’s locker.

Jensen Ackles, Dean Winchester, Supernatural
Gary knows about Maggie and tells Dean the story, including where she is buried. Dean is noticing that “Sam” is acting really strangely, though. The ghost attacks “Sam” as he’s about to shoot Dean, and then the ghost comes after Dean, and “Sam” burns the body, making it disappear.

Jared Padalecki, Sam Winchester, Supernatural
Sam is talking to Gary’s friends and get shot in the neck again. Meanwhile, Dean is talking to “Sam” like he’s a moody, petulant teenager, which he is. They are eating burgers and drinking together, something Sam and Dean never do, and when Dean sees Sam leave with the woman from the opening scene, he seems to realize something is not right.

Gary’s friends call him on the phone. It turns out they know all about what’s going on, and they are planning to kill Dean. Apparently, the teenagers have been talking to demons and there is a bounty on Dean’s head. Gary’s friend then decides to summon a demon to kill Dean.

In the motel, Gary is about to shoot Dean while he sleeps, but he realizes Dean isn’t in the bed. Then Dean punches Gary and takes the gun. He demands to know who Gary is, as he’s not Sam.

Gary’s friend Nora becomes possessed. She kills Gary’s other friend and then shows up at the motel right after Dean has finally checked his voicemails. She knocks Dean unconscious and then asks Gary what he wants. He is just as much of a moron as the other guy. The demon reveals her plan, which is to have Gary as Sam meet Lucifer. Gary can then say yes and Lucifer would have his vessel, but Gary balks. Gary and Dean are able to exorcise Nora, and then Gary does the spell to switch him and Sam back. Dean intimidates Gary to stop doing witchcraft and then they drive him home.

Character Development:

Dean asks Sam if he ever thinks he would want a wife and kids. Sam says no, but the fact that Dean asked shows that it’s on his mind.

Sarah Drew of Grey’s Anatomy plays Nora, one of Gary’s friends.
