Yes…it happened…actress Diane Kruger – aka everyone’s muse – is on The New Potato. We almost didn’t believe it until we pressed publish. It’s no secret sartorially speaking Kruger can do no wrong when it comes to the red carpet, and the former-model-turned-actress’ newest movie – Sky – hit theaters this weekend. The German-born actress – who’s been the face of beauty campaigns for timeless brands like Chanel and Calvin Klein – is top of our list when it comes to all things concerning being effortlessly chic, perfectly messy, glowing…Let’s face it, any and all of the above. So when we were given the opportunity to plug her on all things food, fashion and beauty, you better believe we were taking very detailed notes. Turns out Kruger thinks strong is the new skinny and always has rosé in her fridge…
Diane Kruger: Poached eggs with avocado on multigrain bread for breakfast, some sort of salmon dish for lunch, nuts as snacks during the day, and maybe chicken or veal for dinner with veggies and red wine.
NP: How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
DK: I work out a lot. I kind of got into it recently…just the gym or hiking, maybe four to five times a week. I try to eat organic, but I’m not obsessive about food.
NP: What are your morning and nightly beauty routines?
DK: I use Cetaphil soap to wash my face and Kiehl’s toner (morning and night). My eye cream and creams are from Chanel (Sublimate). And I always use sunscreen (also Chanel!).
NP: What foods and drinks do you find make your skin feel its best and worst?
DK: Well, water…but I love wine so something’s gotta give! The worst for skin is fried foods. I immediately break out.
NP: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? The worst?
DK: Don’t worry so much and overthink things. Each day is a new beginning. The worst…maybe my girlfriend suggesting that I would look so much better with plucked eyebrows.
NP: Is there one thing no one knows about you? What is it?
DK: That I’m an excellent joke teller.
NP: What would be your advice to girls waking up, looking in the mirror in the morning and getting dressed?
DK: Jeans, tanks, ballet flats, a Chanel bag and cool boots.
NP: Do you have a style icon? Who is it and why?
DK: I like many different women and styles, but I try to have my own style. I really love Gwen Stefani for example, even though I could never pull off what she wears!
NP: What meals do you like to cook at home? What do you make?
DK: I cook a lot – from lamb with mushed minty peas to Quinoa superfood salads.
NP: Where do you love to travel? What travel basics won’t you travel without?
DK: Always with Coffee and breakfast! It’s the most important meal of the day; I love eggs or just toast with honey.
NP: The workout you’re obsessed with…
DK: Well…I quit drinking for six weeks once and I will say I have never looked better or slept better. But it’s so hard to keep up! I do have much more energy and feel more confident since I started to work out regularly.
NP: What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you go to in each?
DK: Paris, New York and Los Angeles. In Paris, I love Café de Flore for lunch and Chez Georges at night. In NY, I love all the Ramen places in the East Village and I love Shuko for sushi. LA has great places – like Ink for lunch. And I love Madeo for dinner.
NP: What always needs to be in your fridge?
DK: Water, Rosé, butter, and cheese.
NP: What five beauty products couldn’t you live without?
NP: Do you have a personal mantra? What is it?
DK: Que Sera, Sera.
NP: Any tips for staying fresh on planes? What are they?
DK: Bring a blanket or throw and cream.
NP: What are three style items you’re coveting right now?
DK: Levi’s remade 501’s, finding the perfect slouchy tank, and black lace bodysuits.
NP: In the same vein as ‘what is the new black’ in fashion, what’s ‘the new potato’ right now?
DK: Getting fit and strong – not just skinny.
