Naomi Watts Covers New Beauty

Naomi Watts, New BeautyOn caring for her skin: “I used to cover myself with baby oil to the point where my skin was crackling off! I am a lot better now about staying out of the sun and I try to be disciplined; I always have a tube of sunscreen on me. I try to drink tons of water, but I’m not that consistent with it. It’s kind of irritating because when I do, so much of my life is spent running to the restroom, but my skin looks so much better. I am a big fan of the Triad facial. It’s a little bit of microdermabrasion, followed by LED light therapy and a gentle peel. It’s noninvasive, but it really helps with restoring natural collagen and gives my skin radiance. It brings my skin back to life and lasts a good couple of weeks. It’s great before a red carpet or a photo shoot and there’s no downtime.”

On the red carpet: “I do enjoy the red carpet for the reason that you get to express yourself and I love hair and makeup as a form of expression. But, ordinarily, I would never put on high heels unless I absolutely had to.”

On sharing beauty habits with Liev Shreiber: “Liev and I aren’t fighting over the mirror, but we do both use the Clarisonic. I think it’s good to do a gentle exfoliation once a week.”Naomi Watts, New Beauty

On baths: “I am absolutely obsessed with baths. I take one every other night. I don’t know how
people can do without a bath — I can’t even stand it when I’m in a hotel room without one! For me, that’s a deal-breaker.”

On spas: “I like to think of myself as a spa person, but I hardly ever go. I recently had a gift card to The Greenwich Hotel spa
and it was the first time I’ve made a visit in a very long time. I love massage and smelling and choosing essential oils, and I go into a coma with a good foot rub!”

On sensitive skin: “I have very sensitive skin, so I can’t really use products with perfume. I really like L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Volume Filler Eye Treatment; it’s really spongy with a great texture.”

On makeup tricks: “I once had a makeup artist tell me to wear blush as high as possible, on my cheekbones. You almost want to apply it under your eyes. It’s a good trick; it really does make it look better, yet it looks natural.”

On working out: “My workout of choice is yoga with a little cardio, but as I get older, my back can’t handle the impact so I am toning it down. I actually used to be a bit of a fanatic, but I’m just not up for it now. I’m also not one of those people who can wake up at 4 a.m. to work out. But I do like to get in some yoga because it gives me that sense of calm. There’s a woman in New York named Taryn Toomey who has these great classes. It’s balance, yoga, cardio and music and it really speaks to your mind.”

On her guilty pleasures: “I try to eat healthy, but I can’t bear 100-percent discipline at all times. I am someone who allows myself some room to have fun and enjoy the pleasures of life. That means a piece of chocolate cake when I want it or chocolate mousse — I have a thing for chocolate. I also have a thing for salt. I could eat bags and bags of potato chips and popcorn.”

On eating healthy: “I say ‘everything in moderation,’ but I don’t really eat red meat. I eat fish and sometimes chicken, but I have never craved red meat. I tasted it when I was younger and I never liked it.”

On cleaning her skin: “At the end of the day, after I’m shooting, I’m desperate to get out of my makeup. You are basically sitting there for hours in a ton of makeup and they keep adding to it and piling it on. I like to get a hot, hot, hot washcloth to take it off, then I use the Clarisonic to exfoliate and I apply a good moisturizer.”

On her beauty inspiration: “I find a lot of beauty inspiration in Australia, but for me, someone like Charlotte Rampling is inspiring. In my opinion, she is more beautiful than a supermodel.”

On her health tips: “I try to stay fit and healthy, get enough sleep and have a good diet.”
