Sophia Bush Encourages Fans To Spend on Humanitarian Gifts This Christmas

Sophia BushSophia Bush has taken to her Instagram account to encourage fans to shop for their friends and family from retailers that give back. She has even created a hashtag for it – #GiftsThatGiveBack:

“I am all about finding goods and products that have a give-back-and-change-the-world-for-the-better ethos baked into very fibers of the companies that make them. I’m ALSO all about straight forward donations to awesome causes. If your most loved one(s) don’t have any cool stuff on their wish lists, think about donating to an incredible charity in their name. Three of my favorites? @charitywater, @pencilsofpromise, and #TheGirlProject! You can help families gain access to clean water, build primary schools in the developing world, or make sure over 50 million girls around the world who don’t have access to secondary school education GET IT! All of these things = empowerment. And you can do it for somebody you love, and gift them a gift that’s sure to make hem misty-eyed (I’m totally not crying as I type this. Totally not…)”

“For all the coffee addicts out there, today’s #GiftsThatGiveBack is for you (and me, who I am kidding, I’m on cup four today!) @stojoco and @groundsandhounds coffee are both making our guilty pleasure drinks do some serious good! G+H is an amazing, fair trade organic coffee that gives 20% to no kill shelters. “Buy a pound, save a hound!” And @Stojoco makes my new favorite coffee gadget. A BPA and phthalate free, food-grade silicone, and #5 recyclable (hot damn that’s eco-conscious!!) collapsible, LEAK PROOF cup for your coffee! So you fill it, drink it, smash it and put it in your pocket/purse/backpack for later. Voila! No more single use coffee/tea/tasty-blended-beverage cups. You can help save the world/our oceans/your conscience with every cup! BAM! #savethepuppies #savetheearth.”

“Today’s #GiftsThatGiveBack is an amazing company, The Giving Keys, started by my friend @caitlincrosby. She had an aha moment when she met a homeless couple and found out the gal made jewelry. These keys, and now locks and bracelets too, are meant to be passed around like doses on inspiration. “Embrace the word on your key. Then pass it on to someone who needs it more than you. @thegivingkeys employs people transitioning out of homelessness.” Check out their story — and Caitlin’s TED Talk — on”

“In keeping with my beanie theme today, my #GiftsThatGiveBack #GTGB12 pick is @loveyourmelon! LYM was started by two college sophomores — inspiring!! — and is now run by college students across the country. Their mission is to give a hat to every child battling cancer in America. They’ve reserved more than 45,000 hats to donate to children battling cancer through their buy one, give one program. This is equal to the number of children currently undergoing cancer treatment in the country! Extra awesome fact? The hats are donated in person at hospitals nationally by LYM college ambassadors dressed as superheroes. You can hit up the “Request a Hat” page on their website to request a hospital delivery!!”
