Tom Hiddleston To Narrate Children’s Adaptation of ‘Henry V’

Tom HiddlestonTom Hiddleston will narrate a new children’s adaptation of Henry V that will premiere in primary schools throughout the U.K. during Shakespeare Week, which runs from March 16-22, according to Digital Spy.

The film will premiere in primary schools throughout the country during Shakespeare Week from March 16-22 and stars children. “Once more unto the breach, my friends,” said by a child gives a unique and fun take on the play and is a way to get children to be more interested in the works of Shakespeare.

The new take on Henry V is part of a new venture by WillShake, which has the goal of getting children to be open to experience of Shakespeare, and using child actors is an important aspect of that goal.

“We wanted to let children hear the language, feel the mood and see the story unfold in the most exciting and relevant way,” Joe Talbot, the director, told Digital Spy. “The blend of Shakespeare, film and digital technology allows young people in every corner of the U.K. to connect with the tale.”

Hiddleston has previously played Henry V in the BBC film miniseries The Hollow Crown, which featured film version of Richard II, Henry IV Parts I & II, and Henry V.

“With WillShake, Joe Talbot and Emily Blacksell have achieved something wonderful,” Tom Hiddleston told Digital Spy. “They have completely reimagined the possibilities for children and their first contact with Shakespeare. Their Henry V film is fresh, dynamic and so lovingly crafted that it’s impossible not to stand up for it. Bravo.”

In addition to his role as Henry V, Hiddleston recently played Coriolanus in a stage production of the play of the same name at the Donmar Warehouse, for which he won a What’s On Stage Award.

Shakespeare Week is a national annual celebration giving primary school children in the U.K. a great first encounter with Shakespeare. Thousands of schools, families, and organizations work together to inspire a new generation of children through Shakespeare’s stories, language and heritage.
