Supernatural – Season 2 – Episode 17
The episode opens with a woman out at a bar with her friends having drinks. She gets hit on by her boss and turns him down gently. She notices a creepy guy looking at her and she leaves the bar (why are the parking lots always so desolate?). The guy is outside in the parking lot. The next day, the woman finds her boss, Nate, dead in his office and his heart is missing.
The murders seem to be connected to the lunar cycle. Dean thinks it’s a werewolf and he’s excited to see it.
The brothers interview the woman who found Nate’s body. Her name is Madison and she tells them that her ex-boyfriend has been stalking her. The ex-boyfriend, Kurt, isn’t there when they arrive, not that it stops them from going inside. Dean finds claw marks outside the window. While they are looking through Kurt’s things, they hear a gunshot and a policeman is dead in the alley outside, also with his heart missing.
The go to check on Madison and make sure that she’s safe and her neighbor, Glenn, opens his door, too. They ask to talk to Madison in private and she tells them that she saw Kurt outside her apartment the night before, just looking.
Dean calls Sam and tells her that Madison’s the werewolf. Sam thinks Dean is wrong because she was there the entire time. Dean says she wasn’t there an hour ago. He tells Sam that he cut her arm below the elbow and when Sam checks, the cut is there. Sam locks Madison in the house and has her at gunpoint, but she thinks he’s crazy.
Sam wonders if Madison is unaware that she’s a werewolf. He brings up their father’s theory that there is a cure for lycanthropy, which is to kill the werewolf that bit you. Dean thinks it’s crazy and that finding the werewolf is going to be next to impossible.
Sam narrows down the area where he thinks Madison was bit by a mugger. Dean agrees to go and look for him while Sam stays to make sure Madison doesn’t escape and kill anyone.
The next morning, Madison wakes up to see all the scratch marks on her door. As Madison looks around the room, she sees the scratch marks aren’t just on the door, but all of the walls in the room. She has no choice but to believe Sam now.
The brothers are waiting outside of Madison’s apartment to make sure she is actually cured. She comes outside and invites them inside to wait.
After Sam and Madison sleep together, Sam finds Madison is still a werewolf and she escapes. Sam tells Dean he called Bobby and he didn’t know anything that would help them, but he did know that severing the bloodline wouldn’t work.
Dean wonders why she didn’t turn when they were with her. He suggests that she may have to be asleep to turn.
Madison calls Sam from a phone booth. She is upset and doesn’t know where she is. They pick her up and Sam insists they will find a cure, wanting to make her feel better, but Dean tells her that she deserves to know they haven’t been able to find anything and they’ve tried every source.
In the last scene, Madison asks Sam to kill her. Jensen and Jared both give amazing performances, and that’s just worth noting.
Dean is still hanging around outside Kurt’s apartment when the glass window shatters. He runs inside and finds Kurt already dead, and Madison is the werewolf. Dean has a small knife and cuts her but she gets away.
Madison breaks out of the chair she was tied to after she turns into a werewolf and attacks Sam. He is able to get her into another room where he closes the door behind her and blocks it with a giant piece of furniture.
Meanwhile, the werewolf is chasing a blonde woman in the area Sam expected Dean would be able to find it. The werewolf is about to bite the girl when Dean shoots it multiple times. The girl, completely freaked out, just runs away. Dean looks at the werewolf and it’s Glenn, Madison’s neighbor.
Sam wakes up and Madison is gone. A second later, Sam sees her and she’s turned into a werewolf again. The cure didn’t work.
Family Moments & Arguments:
Once again, Sam brings up the fact that he is supposedly evil. He is mad that Dean won’t kill him but he will kill Madison. This story line is frustrating because Sam always fails to see that there is a difference between someone who is actively killing people and someone who theoretically has evil inside them, especially because everyone has a little evil inside them.
Sam and Dean decide who will follow Kurt and who will stay with Madison by playing rock, paper, scissors.
Sam starts watching a soap opera with Madison.
Dean is “watching” Kurt by hanging out at the strip club Kurt is patronizing.
Romantic Relationships/ (Sex Scenes):
Sam gets laid. Not much more to say, really. It’s only the second sex scene of the entire show.
This may only be the show’s second shirtless scene, but there is a nice shot of Sam shirtless while he’s sleeping next to Madison.
Impersonation of the Week:
Sam and Dean pose as detectives to look at the victim and then to interview the woman who found the body.
State of the Week:
“The puppy that bit her could have been anyone, anywhere.” – Dean
“Hey, don’t mention it!” – Dean
“You know, for a stakeout, you’re car’s a bit conspicuous.” – Madison
“So, I’m just gonna head back to the hotel and watch some pay-per-view, or something.” – Dean
