Season 3 – Episode 15 – Chuck Versus the Role Models
This episode starts with a 1970’s style parody opening sequence as Morgan explains the concept of the show from his perspective.
Important Moments/Plot Summary:
In this episode, we get to explore Sarah’s inner trauma instead of Chuck’s as he asks her to move in with him. Her immediate reaction is why? She just doesn’t see the point, which clearly throws Chuck off.
General Beckman assigns Chuck and Sarah to observe a spy couple, the Turners, who have been married for 30 years and are the best spies in the business. She also assigns Casey to make Morgan field ready, an assignment that he is less than thrilled with.
Chuck and Sarah find out that Mr. & Mrs. Turner have been divorced and remarried three times. Chuck is very impressed by the Turners as a couple, while Sarah is much less so.
The mission the Turners have is to retrieve software from a man named Otto at aparty. As Chuck and Sarah are leaving the party with the software after the Turners got drunk and started fighting, the Turners pull a gun on them and steal the software. It was a double-cross.
Chuck is very upset that the Turners double-crossed them because he wanted them to be their role models and he’s concerned that Sarah will never move in with him now.
Sarah realizes that Mr. Turner will probably be at the hotel they mentioned earlier, the only place where he can get the perfect Manhattan. After bringing the Turners back to the apartment, Chuck and Sarah called the U.S. Marshals. There is a knock at the door, but it’s Otto, the bad guy, who brought his tiger with him to visit! It turns out that the collar they took from tiger has a tracking device.
When Otto asks for the Turners, Chuck is ready to hand them over, but Sarah says that would make them no better than the Turners.
Meanwhile, Ellie is having trouble adjusting to Africa and by the end of the episode, Awesome gets sick and they have to go home from Africa. It turns out their team leader is a Ring agent and poisoned Awesome to look like malaria. (Side note – through the entire episode and even the preceding episodes, they always refer to Africa as if it’s a country rather than a continent. We never actually know what country they went to.)
Coolest Action Sequences/Chuck Accidentally Saves the Day:
Sarah and Chuck order room service for the Turners and while the Turners are answering the door, Chuck and Sarah enter the room from the balcony. They then have the Turners at gunpoint.
The Turners show up at Chuck’s apartment before Otto shoots Chuck and Sarah. Meanwhile, the tiger is outside and Casey and Morgan are trying to escape. Morgan runs towards Ellie and Awesome’s apartment to get the tiger to follow him. The tiger growls, distracting Otto. That allows Chuck to flash and he and Sarah get the gun from Otto and end up in a stand off with the Turners. Chuck puts down his gun and Mr. Turner gets Mrs. Turner to put hers down.
Chuck and Sarah find the software, but it’s on the collar of a tiger!
Sarah asks Chuck if he really thinks they will end up just like the Turners, and he says no.
Sarah tells Chuck she wants to move in with him if the offer still stands. She apologizes for freaking out and says that she has never had a normal life and she freaked out.
Funniest/Most Awkward Moments:
In the first scene, Morgan walks up to Sarah, who is in her pajamas (a generous term for a tank top and underwear?) and Morgan just keeps accidentally saying inappropriate things as Sarah offers him the orange juice.
Chuck freaks out because Sarah is storing guns, which is to say a small arsenal, in his apartment, under the furniture. She tells him about the 30-foot rule.
After the Turners start fighting during the mission, Sarah says they should show them how it’s done. When they go to the room to get the software, they run into a tiger, just hanging out. The software is on the tiger’s collar.
Chuck gets the collar with the software off the tiger, but then sneezes because of his cat allergy and wakes the tiger up. Chuck and Sarah both run out the door screaming.
Mrs. Turner asks about their back-up guns. Chuck goes to look for the back-up guns under the furniture, and when he opens it, he finds it empty. He asks Sarah what she did with their ‘small arsenal’ and she says she got rid of it. When he asks why, she says it was because she told him to!
Notable Guests Stars:
Swoozie Kurtz plays Mrs. Turner.
