Season 3 – Episode 13 – Chuck Versus the Other Guy

This is an intense episode, but a series highlight.

Important Moments:

The episode picks up a few minutes after the previous one ended. Sarah goes into a warehouse with Shaw, who said the Ring director should be there. Once inside, she sees the video of her red test playing. Sarah freaks out when she finds out that she killed Shaw’s wife. Shaw then comforts HER, which should have been her first sign that he was crazy. No one could just be okay with that.

Meanwhile, Chuck is frantically looking for Casey, who gives him a number to call. Chuck calls in a full tactical support team, air support and tank included. They drop from the ceiling all around Sarah and Shaw.

Upon returning to Castle, Chuck gets in big trouble from General Beckman, who says that Chuck’s actions show that he isn’t ready for Rome. She’s also really mad about the bill.

General Beckman says that she is disbanding the team, assuming that they can no longer work together due to the circumstances involving Sarah and Shaw’s wife. Shaw says that he can still work with Sarah, so she agrees, too. Chuck later contacts General Beckman privately where he finds out that Beckman has decided to proceed with her plan to move Sarah and Shaw to D.C. to head up the task force.

Morgan finds Chuck drinking and playing video games because he’s depressed about Sarah. Sarah shows up and after Chuck and Sarah talk, and Chuck finds out that Casey told Sarah about his red test, Sarah tells Chuck that they have a mission with Shaw.

After Chuck and Sarah leave Shaw alone with the Ring director, all the men who were shot, including the Ring director, get up. Back at Castle, General Beckman scolds Shaw for killing the Ring director. Sarah tells General Beckman that the Ring is working on its own Intersect. Beckman decides to send Sarah and Shaw to Paris to follow up on the Ring. Chuck is supposed to stay behind.

Chuck later shows Morgan the footage of Shaw fighting off all the Ring agents. Morgan, a self-proclaimed expert on Hong Kong fight movies, says that the fight is fake. He runs it in slow motion to demonstrate to Chuck, where the fact that Shaw’s kicks are fake is plainly visible. Since the fight was staged, Chuck realizes that Shaw must be working with the Ring. He goes to General Beckman but she dismisses him without even listening to his evidence, though she does freak out about Morgan’s presence in Castle. General Beckman suspends Chuck, so they go to Casey for help.
Yvonne Strahovski, Sarah Walker, Brandon Routh, Shaw, Chuck
Meanwhile, Shaw has taken Sarah to the place where she killed his wife. Sarah realizes where they are too late, however, and is tranquilized with an immobilizing drug. He then takes her to a cafe where he talks to her like an insane person and then gives the Ring director Intel so they can complete their own Intersect.

Morgan, after quitting the Buy More to work for Chuck, comes back to Big Mike to ask for his job back. After leaving Big Mike’s office, he gets a phone call from General Beckman. She says he’s officially part of the team. Morgan is excited and says he just has to quit his job. She tells him not to, as the Buy More is his cover. Casey got him on the team!

Coolest Action Sequences/Chuck Accidentally Saves the Day:
While Chuck and Sarah are at the bottom of an elevator shaft, Shaw is attacked by a bunch of Ring agents. They end up holding the Ring director hostage in the elevator, but then are over powered. Shaw shows up and ‘saves’ them. After they leave, they hear a gunshot, which makes it seem like Shaw killed the director.
Zachary Levi, Chuck Bartowski, Brandon Routh
Chuck shows up at the cafe to save Sarah. He won’t kill Shaw and instead, wanting to arrest him, he and Shaw get into a fight. They hear Casey fighting with the Ring director in the background. Shaw punches Chuck and for some reason he just sits on the ground. Maybe Chuck is momentarily in shock? Shaw takes Sarah and tells Chuck that he won’t tell anyone his secret and not to follow him.
Chuck Bartowski, Brandon Routh, Zachary Levi
Obviously, Chuck didn’t listen to Shaw! Shaw takes Sarah to a bridge and Chuck shows up with the gun. Shaw tells Chuck he won’t be able to pull the trigger, while Shaw will be able to. Shaw is about to shoot Chuck when Chuck shoots him first. As Shaw falls off the bridge, he grabs Sarah’s arm and tries to pull her over with him but Chuck runs over and grabs her. Shaw falls and lands in the water, where he is dead…or so they think.

Funniest Moments:

Casey tells Chuck to call Colonel Sanders. At Chuck’s look, he adds, “Don’t make fun of his name.”

The entire scene in the Ring directors elevator, as more and more people end up being held hostage by Chuck and Sarah, Chuck with his tranquilizer gun.

Casey doesn’t want to help Chuck save Sarah because he’s not a spy anymore. Morgan gives a speech to him, basically pissing him off into going.
John Casey, Adam Baldwin
Casey contacts General Beckman and uses the Ring director as his hostage to bargain with Beckman for his old rank back, a new Crown Victoria and, “A request you’re not going to like.”
