Chuck Recap Season 1 Episode 8 – Chuck Versus the Truth

Chuck meets Lou.

Chuck meets Lou.

Notable Guest star:

Rachel Bilson plays Lou in this episode and in the following one. She’s a deli owner that fantasizes about sandwiches and has a crush on Chuck.

Best Moments:

Chuck and Sarah are on a double date with Ellie and Awesome, when Awesome tells Chuck he didn’t realize how old-fashioned Chuck was. Chuck thinks Awesome is talking about the fact that he just ordered Sarah’s sushi for her, but no, he means sex. And Ellie is sitting right next to him. Awkward. Yet hilarious.

Elena & Jeremy Gilbert on the Vampire Diaries

Elena & Jeremy Gilbert on the Vampire Diaries

On Vampire Diaries, there are varying degrees of strong female characters, with the variation even occurring within the characters themselves, depending on the season and whether they grow or regress as people, both of which occur at different points.

Emma Swan on Once Upon a Time

Played by Jennifer Morrison

Played by Jennifer Morrison

On Once Upon a Time, there are a multitude of female characters that are strong individuals in their own right, apart from their gender, which often leaves women to serve as a token female character.  There is Emma Swan, the main character, Regina Mills/the Evil Queen, Snow White/Mary Margaret and Belle.

The main character, Emma Swan, is a good example of a strong character and the one we will discuss.  She is independent and self-sufficient, yet still has considerable flaws, among them being deeply cut off from other people.  She doesn’t depend on men in any way, and doesn’t make decisions based on possible repercussions with a love interest, which is very rare on television.

Chuck Recap Season 1 – Episode 7 – Chuck Versus the Alma Mater

Chuck and Bryce

Chuck and Bryce

Important Moments:

The episode opens with some technology that explains a little bit about how the intersect works, explaining how Chuck could end up with it as a result of an e-mail. In the same scene, we find out that the Stanford professor has some sort of secret information, and he made a mistake with it, resulting in some tough looking guy showing up at his office. We find out later that the professor was a former professor of Chuck’s from when he was attending Stanford, and was the professor that kicked him out of school.

Chuck flashes on himself, and find out he is in the Intersect. Casey and Sarah have no idea why he is in it.

Chuck has a flashback to the moment when he was accused of not only cheating on the exam, but also selling copies of the tests from an n anonymous tip from a student. (Bryce! So mean!) The moment is kind of heartbreaking. However, it also leads Chuck to realize what the numbers from the professor mean.

Chuck Recap Season 1 – Episode 6 – Chuck Versus the Sandworm

Chuck and Sarah at the Halloween party.

Chuck and Sarah at the Halloween party.

Best Moments:

Awesome thinks Sarah is at the house to surprise Chuck to “get lucky.” Chuck asks Sarah to stay so it’s believable. Chuck has a very specific time, relating to the auditory aphrodisiac that is the first Arcade Fire album. Nerdy, but cute. Then Sarah gives him a photo of the two of them at Comic con. Unfortunately, they’ve never actually been to Comic con.

Laszlo and Chuck struggle over the gun, which turns out to be a water gun, then Laszlo says he really needs Chuck’s help.

Morgan asks Ellie to tell him honestly if he is immature. Ellie responds, “Do you really want me to answer that?” Awesome tells Morgan to follow him into the kitchen, telling Ellie he would handle this one. Awesome and Morgan then have a moment as Awesome tells him about the moment when you decide if you’re a “tucker.” Morgan ends up dressed like Awesome with product in his hair.

When Chuck confronts Casey about spying on him, and Casey complains about listening to Chuck and Morgan discuss sandwiches for four hours, Chuck protests that he’s wrong, at which point, Casey plays the recording of the sandwich conversation.

“Hello, Chuck,” Laszlo says from the dark corner of Chuck’s room, scaring the crap out of him.

Notes:
As this is a rewatch, I’m using the dvd (I can’t find it on any of the streaming services, annoying!) so this first recap is of the extended version of the pilot. Also, because it’s a rewatch, there will be spoilers! Hopefully, I can get through the show before the movie comes out.

About Us

Welcome to Music In the Dark.

We are a “lifestyle” web site, though after all, who isn’t these days?  We are based in New York, and focus on women and entertainment.  Eventually, as we get fully launched, there will be sections focusing on:

Entertainment, which will cover great television shows, both old and new, including favorites such as Buffy, Chuck and Veronica Mars, as well as Once Upon a Time, White Collar, Vampire Diaries and Sleepy Hollow. We will feature episode recaps, as well as news about the cast members projects. We will also have music reviews and featured bands.  A focus will also be interesting articles and essays that focus on women and positive progress that women make in the varied entertainment mediums, which work, to a degree, as a reflection of societal views. We also hope to have red carpet coverage soon.

Travel, which will focus on great and interesting places to visit.

Food, which will obviously focus on food, from the perspective of both great restaurants as well as information on health relating to the negative effects of processed foods, as well as the health benefits from positive physical activities, such as yoga and anything else food-related that may be interesting, and…

Activism, which will showcase non-profit organizations doing great work and bringing attention to important causes.
