An Avenger versus a Guardian of the Galaxy as Captain America himself, Chris Evans, and Star Lord, Chris Pratt, have made an epic sports wager on the outcome of the upcoming Superbowl. The Seattle Seahawks are supported by Pratt, while Evans is rooting for the New England Patriots. The bet began with some friendly trash talking on Twitter.
The bet began when Chris Evans tweeted Chris Pratt, writing, “Well, well, well, @prattprattpratt, looks like our teams are going into battle. For the next 2 weeks, you are not my friend, you are my enemy.”
Chris Pratt responded to Evans tweet, replying, “@ChrisEvans We both know there’s only one Captain America and his name is Russell Wilson. #SuperBowlBound #LOB #Repeat.”
Evans had his own reply ready. “@prattprattpratt them’s fighting words,” Evans replied. “Stakes? #whatisaseahawkanyway #somethingtombradyhunts.”
That’s when Pratt replied with the stakes and made it interesting. “@ChrisEvans OK,” Pratt wrote. “Seahawks win you fly yourself to Seattle, visit @Seattlechildren hospital as Captain America, waving the 12th man flag.”
Seattle Children’s Hospital has released a press statement regarding the wager. “Thank you to both our superheroes, Chris Pratt and Chris Evans, for turning this sports rivalry into an opportunity to help kids. While we will be rooting for our Seattle Seahawks on Super Bowl Sunday, we are thrilled that kids will get a visit from a superhero, no matter the outcome! Seattle Children’s is grateful whenever special visitors take the time to surprise our patients and families. Visits like these spread joy throughout our hospital and can help brighten their stay. Captain America and Star Lord are welcome at Seattle Children’s anytime. Go Hawks!”
Evans accepted Pratt’s terms and cited his own. “@prattprattpratt I accept,” Evans wrote. “And when the Patriots humiliate your sea chickens, I expect Star-Lord to arrive @Chris_haven in a Brady jersey.”
Whatever the outcome of this friendly wager, some lucky children will be the beneficiaries of a visit from a superhero!
Update: Now that the SuperBowl is over and the Patriots have won, both Pratt and Evans are going to go to both hospitals dressed as their respective characters.
2nd Update: There are photos from the visit!
Chris Pratt wore his Star-Lord costume and and went to Christopher’s Haven Hospital in Boston, and as previously agreed upon, he wore a Tom Brady #12 jersey. Evans came along, too, and according to Joyce Duvall, a media relations spokeswoman for Christopher’s Haven.
“There were here for about two-and-a-half hours,” Duvall said. “The kids were so excited. Both of the Chrises [Evans and Pratt] really played with the kids. There was no media here at all — it was just about the kids. All of the little kids had Captain America shields, [and] Chris Evans was egging them on to fight Chris Pratt!”
They “took endless pictures with the kids and [signed] autographs,” said Duvall. “Disney sent lots of toys over, too.”
Pratt posted about his visit to the hospital on his Facebook page. “[Making] good on that #twitterbowlbet. Starboard is (p)round to be in Boston today at #Christopher’s Haven with Chris Evans and some awesome families.”
